At Johnsonville School we offer 4 music groups giving students the opportunity to learn, extend and make music together in a supportive environment. The Orchestra, Instrumental Group, and the Choir are available for middle and senior students and there is also a Junior School, Music-Making Group.

Orchestra provides for students who have been learning an instrument for at least a year and who can read music notation independently. Orchestra members will have opportunities to perform out in the community.

Instrumental Group provides for students who have been learning an instrument for less than two years, or who would like to learn to play the recorder, glockenspiel, and percussion instruments. Students will learn to read notation and some students are selected to learn the guitar and keyboard.

Junior School Music Making Group provides for junior school children in Year two, the opportunity to learn basic notation and make music in smaller groups on the recorder, glockenspiel and percussion instruments.

For all of these groups the key learning intentions are to:

• - learn to read and play/sing music notation
  - keep time and make music in a group setting
  - follow instructions and manage self
  - enjoy making music with others
  - perform to school and community audiences.
